It’s a town that goes all the way back to 1740 when it was founded and even served as the temporary seat for the US government in the war of 1812.

Leesburg sits right next to the Potomac River at the base of Catoctin Mountain. It’s mostly a commuter suburb and is Virginia’s largest incorporated town that’s part of a county.

The town was named after Thomas Lee, who was an influential Virginian colonist in the 1700’s. There are several historical sights to see in Leesburg, including White’s Ferry, Oatlands Plantation (which is a national historical landmark), Morven Park, and Dodona Manor.

There are a couple of beautiful parks in Leesburg too, like Ida Lee Park, the Rust Manor House and nature Sanctuary, Red Rocks Wilderness Overlook Regional Park, and Washington and Old Dominion Railroad Trail which is great for joggers, bikers and hikers.

Leesburg hosts a couple of notable events; one of these being the annual Leesburg Flower and garden Festival held in the Historic District where vendors are set up and people put on various garden displays. Another great event is the Leesburg Halloween parade, which has been quoted as the Halloween parade which has been happening for longer than any other in the whole country.
